Après Ski
Recipes to look forward to after a day on the slopes ⛷
After an unseasonably warm start to winter here in Europe, the snow has finally arrived and the skiing season has officially started.
We are looking forward to dusting off our snow boots, especially if it means that global warming will mean less snow adventures in the future. It’s a sad reality that our children and their children might face one day, and even for the ski resorts which now have to consider how their facilities can be adapted for use in a warmer climate.
Despite the changing climate patterns, something that has remained a constant for many decades is the après ski menu. After a long day in the snow burning many calories, there is nothing better than going inside a ski lodge for a bubbling pot of Cheese Fondue, a huge plate of Spaghetti Bolognese or, if I am being honest, just a huge plate of French Fries!
My favourite dessert on most ski lodge menus is Kaiserschmarrn, which is an Austrian specialty of shredded pancakes served with a plum compote. It’s so popular that it is also often available as a meal, not just dessert.
But you obviously don’t need to ski in order to enjoy the following recipe ideas. They are great cosy dishes which you can enjoy throughout the winter months.
Happy cooking!
